Raw Materials

I started this post on 11/27/2013- over a year ago! I had gone shopping for something new to wear for Christmas last year. What I came home with were the raw materials for a skirt, necklace and black leg warmers, and ended up becoming a project that would span over a year and grow into making two outfits. I didn't know I was pregnant at the time, let alone with a baby girl, and morning sickness got the best of me; I never ended up finishing in time for Christmas 2013.

At the original time of purchase, I intended on having my mom sew the skirt for me. Little did I know that in a few months, she would buy me my own sewing machine and show me enough of the basics that I was able to make this skirt myself! I made her tutu back before she was born, hoping she'd be a girl. :)

I started on one of the black leg warmers last year. It sat in my crochet bag until this month. With a sense of urgency, I finished my pair and then made Viv a matching pair.

I did manage to complete one of the original outfit items last November: the necklace. However, that was the one item that I ended up not wearing this year! I instead crocheted red flowers for both Viv and me, hers attached to a black crocheted headband, mine attached to a silver hair clip.
But here are the steps for the necklace anyway, since I already had this portion of the post written:

The necklace was simple. Used the same cookie cutter I did with the melted crayons, baked it at 275 for 20 minutes and viola!

I used a marker to roll it.
