Recipe for Vegetable Pot Pie

I didn't come home today thinking that I would be spending two hours standing in the kitchen making dinner. In fact, driving home, I had no idea what I would be making for dinner. Then I remembered we had potatoes. Ryan has been saying for a while that he's wanted mashed potatoes. Okay, side dish decided, no matter I've never made them before. Next, what to make for the main course?

Since I had no freezer-ready crust, I liked that this recipe included how to make that from scratch. I didn't have the cute ramekins either, so I just used a regular old pie dish. The ramekins are much cuter. 

Reasons To Celebrate!

My little brother is getting married in two months! Today was the first of two bridal showers for his fiancee. Another occasion for me to wrap presents and make  a card :) 

I've used this card template for a few bridal showers so far. I print the picture of the bride onto thematically colored cardstock and then punch out flowers that also match the wedding's color scheme. Next, add rhinestones to the flowers for a little sparkle. 

This has been a really busy week, and I meant to go buy ribbon or tulle or something pretty to wrap around the gift. I never had a chance to get to a store, so I looked in my drawer and found a roll of white crepe paper. I think it's a creative substitute, and complements my signature kraft paper wrap job. The little write poof on top I made in lieu of a bow. 

My cousin also had a shower this weekend, and I made her the same card but with blue to fit her wedding colors. 

I also had a baby shower at work a couple of weeks ago. Most of the pregnant women I know are having a boy or have not yet announced the sex. She is the only friend I have who is having a girl. So much fun making this card and wrapping :) 

The bow is the first few steps of a tissue paper pom-pom, just without fanning it out.

Juice from just one grapefruit!

Fresh Grapefruit Juice

I was not a big fan of grapefruit. Ryan ate a couple when we were down in Arizona, and I obligingly tried a bite. Surprisingly, I found them less sour than I had remembered. When we came home, we bought a few grapefruit on our next grocery run. I had also picked up this hand citrus juicer, so thought I'd juice the grapefruit rather than eat it. It was really, really good! Will definitely be doing this again.
