Raised Garden Beds and Fence Repair

Ryan made raised garden beds last year out of a section of fencing that we took down from our yard. Today, while I was at a baby shower, he went plant shopping with Nonny to get the remaining plants we needed to stock our beds for the season. His cousin Bethany had already given us a few plants she started for us, and we also started some of our own from seeds that Ryan transplanted outside. 

Ryan planted: three kinds of tomatoes, three kinds of peppers, basil, mint, cucumbers, beans, peas, chives and broccoli. 

When I got home and saw the garden well underway I was so excited 

... and hungry!

I'll be surprised if that mint plant ever has a chance to grow. I LOVE mint, and was so eager to use it that I picked off three of the few leaves the tiny plant has to offer. They tasted great in these smoothies, along with frozen blueberries a friend gave me just today, frozen strawberries, fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice and lime juice. YUM YUM!

The back fence that you see in the first picture of this post was also a recent project Ryan and his generous and handy dad took on recently. Last fall, we woke up to this after a very strong wind storm: 

Now with our garden set up and the fence back up, it is really starting to feel more like summer :)
