Runs in the Family

My mom has been sewing since she was 12 years old. From childhood, I have many memories of her sitting over her machine, a pin in her mouth, pattern on the table, whipping up her latest creation. She made anything from curtains to costumes to corn sacks. She just recently asked my younger sister and me if we wanted to learn. We both said YES! Of course! We had our first sewing lesson this week and I'm already thinking of projects I want to complete for and before Baby Z's arrival.

These are some of the outfits she made us as kids:

My mom's mom is also very talented. She has stockpiled hand-knitted baby blankets with the hope of making enough to give one to each of her 22 grandkids for their first child. Ryan and I went to her house on Father's Day to pick out the one we wanted for our first. I was so torn between these three! We ended up going with the aqua one.

This past weekend, we went to tour a Frank Lloyd Wright residence, the only one in our city. You can imagine how much my architect husband loved this.

All of this inspiration is happening in the midst of our kitchen renovation. We are making progress and tackling other rooms in the house to get things ready for August!
