The dining room is another room that we are trying to organize. With just the two of us for the past three years, the furniture and layout have met our needs. But now with baby coming, we're reevaluating our needs.
We have been searching for a storage cabinet for a few months. Though not typically stored in a dining room, we need more storage for BAGS!. My school bag, school laptop, Ry's work bag, my purse(s), two lunch boxes and, soon, diaper bag(s)! Our home has very little built-in storage, so we have to find it in furniture. The rest of the dining room furniture is a set, so it was a challenge to find a piece that didn't compete nor completely clash with the rest of the room.
Before:
This little gem was $30 on Craigslist. But, it needed a facelift...
After:
About four coats of yellow paint and sanding in between was all it took to make this the perfect storage cabinet for our dining room.
I also changed some of the decor items on the buffet using my favorite technique- shopping in my own house. All of these items were in different rooms or in storage, and I just rearranged them on the buffet. Free decorating- woohoo.
During the kitchen renovation, EVERYTHING from the cabinets was temporarily housed in the dining room. With the aesthetic changes, organization and the kitchen put back together, we can enjoyably eat in here again.
